Rep. Carla D. Cunningham,BSN, RN, NC State House representative,
is a registered nurse with over 30 years of experience.
Dr. Marie O. Etienne,DNP, APRN, FNP, PNP, D. Min (h.c), PLNC, FADNL is a tenured full professor at Miami Dade College Benjamin Leon School of Nursing.
Dr. Etienne is the current president of the Florida Nurse Association and past president of HANA and the Miami Chapter of the Black Nurses Association. Dr. Etienne has won multiple awards, including a Florence Nightingale Medal.
Dr. Carol Biggs, DHsc, RN is the chief nursing executive at Jackson Health System, a
distinguished leader dedicated to advancing patient care, mentoring nurses, and promoting excellence in nursing.
Trailblazer Award Recipients:
Dr. Sherri Sutton-Johnson, DrPH, MSN/ED, RN, CCHW, CSM, CPM currently serves as the education unit director for the Florida Board of Nursing, a position she has held since 2012. Prior to this, she was a nursing education consultant for the board for four years. Dr. Sutton-Johnson boasts a lengthy and rewarding career of over 33 years as a licensed professional nurse and 37 years of employment with the state of Florida.
Dr. Sandra Tucker, PhD, JD, MSN, RN is the dean of nursing and health sciences at Bethune-Cookman University and is
dedicated to advancing nursing education and mentoring future nurse leaders.
Mariden Mendoza, MPH, RN is a BSN-prepared nurse from the Philippines with over 46 years of experience as an administrator and educator. Recognized in 2004 as a pioneer of Transcultural Nursing Review, she achieved a 99% passing rate while mentoring foreign-trained nurses. She has helped establish many successful start-up nursing schools and has a passion for mentoring nurses and tutoring students for the NCLEX.
